Children in Need of an Education
Sponsor a Child
Many children in rural Tanzania are unable to go to school. They may live very far from the closest government school or their parents cannot afford the required uniform. The education in these schools is often of poor quality and little attention is given to teaching the children English. An early start learning English is important because all classes from the secondary level on and government jobs are conducted in English. Future success depends upon becoming fluent in English as early as possible.
A few years ago, Northside Church in Jackson, Tennessee built a church and elementary school, Emmanuel King Primary School, in a neighboring village. In their first year, Living for Others found 12 sponsors for children to attend this English speaking school. These children receive bus transportation to and from school, two meals a day and their school uniform. They are also being tutored in English after school to insure their success in the classroom. Maybe, most importantly, their families have a new hope for their children’s futures.
Sponsored children will receive 2 meals a day, a school uniform, and bus transportation to Emmanuel King Primary School. They will learn English, which will prepare them for higher education. One sponsorship is $500 with opportunity to contribute more for administrative costs. Smiles of Hope is accepting donations for sponsorships.

This young girl has four siblings; three brothers and one sister. Her father abandoned the family four years ago. He moved to another village and married two other wives as is legal in Tanzania, and often leaves women stranded to care for their children alone. Her mother tries to be a good mother and care for her children. She works at neighboring farms to earn a little bit of money to buy esssentials, such as food for her children. The mom is very grateful one of her children has the opportunity for an education.
