Anna Migera’s Visit to Chestertown UMC     June 2023

When Anna visited on June 18, 2023, she updated us on the many successes of  Angel House, the orphanage where she worked for almost 20 years. The orphanage has grown to include many children. Chestertown UMC has sponsored 14 children over the last ten years. Angel House has opened a school, where the children receive a full education, with some students continuing on to college to seek professional careers. In addition, they offer many opportunities for the children to learn the love of Jesus and to learn skills like farming, caring for animals, and sewing. The children are in a stable, nurturing environment.

Anna left her position at Angel House on April 30, 2023. She has started a ministry, Living for Others. The women in this community face many hardships as many of them raise their children in poverty. Hunger is rampant. Water is scarce. Many families live in one-room huts.

We can partner with Anna, through prayer or monetary donations.

Anna poses with Doug and Barbara Meyerhoff. When Doug was the pastor of Community UMC Chestertown in 2014, he arranged for Anna to visit our congregation. He and Barbara still keep in touch with Anna.

Anna poses with Amy Fuller and Jolie Peniston in front of the Municipal Building on Main Street in Chestertown. Amy and Jolie maintain correspondence with Anna. They lead our church to send financial support for Anna’s causes.

Anna poses with former pastor David Schlansker.

Anna poses with organist Bob Flachbarth.

Where are they now?

This young man is Abdi, whom UMC Chestertown supported through high school and some form of medical college. We also supported his younger sister with her elementary schooling.

Abdi is now a trained Laboratory Technician who is now able to support his sister, Beatrice, as she continues her education.

Dressed in surgical scrubs is Anna’s daughter, Elizabeth. Community Methodist Church of Chestertown is helping with her education. She has begun her clinical rotations. She sometimes spends all day in surgery.
